Hazen Folse

Hazen Folse began her painting career in 1984, after a thirty-year vocal music career of performing and teaching.
She has chosen pastel as her favorite art medium, because of its brilliance and texture, though she often combines it with watercolor and gouache.

She has studied with internationally known pastel artists including, Bob Rohm of Texas, Elizabeth Mowry of New York, Richard McKinley of Oregon, Colleen Howe of Utah, Leslie Mosher Rich of California, Doug Dawson of Colorado, David Garretson of Iowa, and Illinois artists Pat Anderson and Sheri Ramsey.

Along with her artist husband, Ms. Folse enjoys traveling abroad and throughout this country in order to paint on location. Her work has been exhibited in Louisiana, California, and Texas, in addition to Illinois.

She has been featured in three two-person shows and numerous solo exhibits, as well as many public gallery exhibits and the Illinois State Fair. Her portraits and landscapes are included in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Canada, France, and Austria.

Professional Affiliations include: Prairie Art Alliance, Portrait Society of America, Degas Pastel Society, Northwest Pastel Society, Pastel Society of North Florida, and Gateway Pastel Society. She is represented by the H.D. Smith Gallery in the Hoogland Center for the Arts, Springfield, Illinois.
